CHEMISTRY 1.7:  The Periodic Table (October 14, 2020)

IN CLASS LESSON:
  • REVIEW:  Quantum Mechanics: Schrödinger's discovery of the shape of atoms
  • Video:  What Are Periods & Groups In The Periodic Table? | Properties of Matter | Chemistry | FuseSchool
  • REVIEW/PRACTICE:  Energy Levels, shells, SubLevels & Orbitals
  • VIDEO/PRACTICE:  Drawing Lewis Dot Diagrams (first 5 minutes)

ANSWERING QUESTIONS we had--Electricity/Electrons, and the Atomic Bomb:
  • The science of static electricity, Ted Ed
  • How Does an Atom Bomb Work? And why don't more countries have it?
As it expands outwards at 100’s of thousands of meters per second, the chain reaction begins to break down because the atoms are rapidly moving apart so the neutrons are not finding many nuclei to split.

HELPFUL and Interesting RESOURCES for HOME:
  • Anything you don't understand so far, here is a great resource.  Chem4Kids.com
  • REVIEW:  What are Isotopes? | Properties of Matter | Chemistry | FuseSchool
  • REVIEW Video:  Unit Conversion & Significant Figures: Crash Course Chemistry #2 (10)
  • Electric Charge and Electric Fields (Professor Dave Explains)
  • Electric Vocabulary (Ted Ed)
  • The Science of Lightning | National Geographic
  • The genius of Mendeleev's periodic table - Lou Serico (Ted Ed)
